146th Open Championship

July 2017

The 146th Open Championship takes place at Royal Birkdale, Southport, Merseyside this year. Lee's best finish so far was T2nd in 2000 which took place at St Andrews. He finished in T22nd place at Royal Troon last year.

The Open Championship has been hosted at Royal Birkdale numerous times and Lee finished T64th in 1998 and T67th in 2008.

Lee had a 14.59 tee-time with Patrick Reed and Jon Rahm on Thursday and finished 1-over for the day.Playing in extremely blustery wind on Friday, Lee made a magnificent eagle at the 5th but added numerous bogeys to his card, resulting in a 4-over 74. Now 5-over for the event it appeared that Lee would miss the projected cut set at 5-over.  However due to the weather worsening in the afternoon the cut was set at 6-over and Lee made it through to the weekend.

Lee teed off at 10.10 on Saturday with Sean O'Hair and made three birdies on the front nine to go back to 2-over for the event. A double-bogey at 12 saw him slip back to 4-over.  He almost made birdie at 18, when he chipped out of the greenside bunker to pull up slightly short.

He had a 10.00 tee-time with Younghan Song for the final round and had made three birdies and three bogeys by the 14th hole. He added further birdies at 15,16 and 18 to sign for a 67 and T27th place on +1. Jordan Spieth won the title on 12-under par.

Lee takes a week break, attending Sergio Garcia's wedding in Austin Texas before playing in the WGC Bridgestone Invitational from 3rd August.
