The 2016 Ryder Cup Matches
September 2016
Following the Opening Ceremony on Thursday, where tributes were paid to the legendary Arnold Palmer, who died on Sunday, the Captain's announced the pairings for Friday morning Foursomes. Lee will partner Thomas Pieterson in the final group, against Matt Kuchar and Dustin Johnson.
Lee's opening shot from the tee found the bunker and the hole was eventually lost. At the 2nd Pieters left Lee with a short putt to halve the hole but missed, and the US went 2-up.
The 7th, where Lee drove into the water was won by Team US to go 4-up.
At 13 Lee's two foot putt to birdie the hole pulled to the left to go 5 down.
At the 14th Lee left Pieters with a 20-foot putt for a birdie which he sank but the hole was halved by Team US and the match was lost 5 and 4.
'I will take responsibility. I played poorly and Thomas played well. He made some putts when we needed to,' Lee said.
'I hit a couple of wild drives early on and you can't afford to do that.
'It's a tough game to play and you want to get momentum.'
The US won all four foursome matches and Lee did not play the afternoon matches, with the day ending 5 to the US and 3 to Europe.
Lee did not play in the Saturday morning foursomes but played in the afternoon fourballs in the second match, out with Danny Willett vs J Holmes and R Moore.
The match was all square until the 7th when Lee won the hole, then back to AS at 9. At 14 Lee had a beautiful read on a right to left putt to win the hole.
The US won the 17th to go 1-up. There was chance of a halved hole at 18 when Danny had a 15 foot putt and Lee a shorter 3 foot putt but both missed their chance and the match ended 1 up to USA.
