Maybank Malaysian Open

February 2015

Two times winner of the Maybank Malaysian Open (1997 and 2014), Lee travelled to Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club to see whether he can make it third time lucky, this week.

Last year he won the title seven shots ahead of the field and is going into the event in good form.

Lee joins Kiradech Aphibarnrat and David Lipsky for the first two rounds, 8am (00.00 GMT) from the 10th on Thursday and 12.50 (4.50 GMT) on Friday.

Lee tied for lead with Graeme McDowell on 6-under par (66) following a round of 7 birdies and a bogey.

Five under for the second round (67), six birdies and a bogey,  with a birdie at 10 after his eagle try clipped the pin, Lee is tied for lead with Alejandro Canizares on 11 under par.

“I played nicely again. I felt comfortable out there, hit a lot of fairways, hit some good iron shots and made some good putts. I probably only hit one poor shot all day, from the middle of the fairway on the fifth hole - I was going in with a five iron and blocked it right into the water"

“You have to battle through the conditions in the afternoon. It’s like playing in a sauna but you come to expect that playing in Asia and I’m used to it. It obviously suits me".

Lee had a 10am (2am GMT) tee time on Saturday with Alejandro Canizares and Bernd Wiesberger.

Three birdies on the back nine lead to a 3-under 69 for Lee but he now lies tied for third place on 14 under par, 3 strokes adrift of current leader Bernd Weisberger

Lee went out in the penultimate group at 9.40 (01.40GMT) on Sunday with Anirban Lahiri and Paul Peterson. Three over on the final day (double bogey at 2) and 1-over on the back nine, saw Lee finish in T5th position on 11-under par (277), with Anibarn Lahiri taking the title on 16-under.

Lee won €87,344 in prize money and is now T21st in the Race to Dubai.
