Lee's first event of the year takes place at Abu Dhabi Golf Club UAE and begins on 19th January.

His best finish, so far was T2nd in 2008.

Lee had a 12.05 (8.05 GMT) tee time on Thursday with Rafa Cabrero Bello and Thomas Pieters. He carded a 4-under 68, missing a chance for a birdie at 17 when the ball hung on the edge of the cup. He is T10th on the leaderboard.

Partner Helen was on the bag on Thursday  Lee said, "It was good. She's under strict orders to not say too much about the golf side of things. But she's there giving me encouragement. Unfortunately, you know, Billy's dad passed away on Saturday, so that's why he's not here this week. Helen said she'd step up. And I have to say, I wouldn't want to carry the golf bag around six miles in this kind of heat. Every credit for doing it". Helen continued to caddie for the whole event.

He had a 7.50 (local time) start on Friday, adding 7 birdies and 4 bogeys to his card for a 69 (T12th) and remained T12th when he birdied the last for another 69.

He had an 11.15 start with Ross Fisher and Maximilian Kieffer for the final round on Sunday, finishing in T8th place following another score of 69 (13-under par).

Tommy Fleetwood won the event on 17-under par.
